What is balance? Balance has definitions as both a noun and a verb.
According to Oxford Languages there are 2 definitions for both. As a noun, one is “a condition in which different elements are equal or in the correct proportions”. As a verb, one definition is “offset or compare the value of (one thing) with another”.
Our society talks a lot about “finding the balance” or “work/life balance”. It’s a great idea, but achieving balance is a hefty task. Life has so many demands; work, family relationships, finances, social groups, child rearing, household maintenance and self care, just to name a few. It can be exhausting. A quick scroll through social media will no doubt show you people living their best lives, seemingly having a handle and balance on life. But looks can be deceiving. Many folks these days are running ragged.
Where is the balance and why is it important? As an aviation enthusiast, I understand the importance of balance in flight. Certainly the contents of the aircraft need to be loaded in the correct proportions to ensure a safe flight. Being unbalanced in flight could have disastrous results. So too in our lives. So what can be done?
